DisplayPort SST Converters

DisplayPort MST Routers

MegaChips’ DP1.2a multi-stream transport (MST) routers combine 2 or more DisplayPort AV streams or HDMI signals and transport them as a DisplayPort MST signal to capable displays. They also allow splitting the DisplayPort MST signal in to 2 or more DisplayPort or HDMI streams. In addition, these devices can operate as simple AV multiplexer, de-multiplexer or PHY layer repeater. In DisplayPort input-output configuration the MST routers handle video resolution up to 4K2K60Hz. These routers are targeted for daisy–chained monitor, digital signage (video-wall), MST video hub, Notebook and docking station applications.

Mobility DisplayPort Chip Products

MegaChips’ Mobility DisplayPort (MyDP) portfolio includes transmitter and converter products. These products are compliant with the VESA Mobility DisplayPort standard and are interoperable with other brand products based on this standard. MyDP products are suitable for mobile applications, allows user to connect and watch audio/video content from SmartPhones/Tablets on a large screen TVs while simultaneously charging the device. These products support uncompressed video streaming up to 1080p 60Hz and audio up to 8CH using just a single pair of wires which easily maps to standard 5pin connector or any other type of connectors on a SmartPhone/Tablet.

DisplayPort over USB Type-C Chips

USB Type-C specification defines the support of “Alternate Modes” where in several pins on the USB Type-C connector may be re-configured for transporting other A-V protocols. Thanks to the initiative from VESA, it has collaborated with USB-IF and published DisplayPort “Alt Mode” on USB Type-C standard in Sep 2014. The DP “Alt Mode” specification defines the simultaneous use of USB Enhanced SuperSpeed (data) and DisplayPort1.3 (A-V stream) over Type-C connector for PC and mobile applications. Many among the new products released in the market today supports DP “Alt Mode” standard. Example the new MacBook, Chromebook Pixel all support DisplayPort as the A-V protocol for external display connection through the Type-C connector. DisplayPort is by far the most preferred and popular A-V interface over Type-C connector because it is natively available with almost all CPU/GPU sources and is highly flexible when comes to lane selection, lane swap, besides the large bandwidth and low EMI compared to other A-V interface standards.

USB Type-C is highly versatile interface agnostic to plug and direction orientation, means the Type-C cable is reversible and can be plugged in to the Type-C socket even when it is flipped. It has four high speed channels primarily assigned to transport USB data up to 10Gbps. The standard DisplayPort interface also has four high speed main lanes. As per DP “Alt Mode” on USB Type-C specification, all four lanes or two of the four DP lanes are mapped on to the Type-C high speed channels to transport DP streams. Besides the USB Type-C interface supports up to 100W power over a single cable and is backward compatible with HDMI, DVI and VGA adapters, makes it most flexible single interface for Notebook, Tablet, SmartPhones, monitors and accessories such as dongles, docking station and storage device. The latest USB Type-C to HDMI2.0 adapters in the market supports full 4K UHD resolution.

USB Type-C DisplayPort “Alt Mode” is going to consolidate numerous cables, connectors used in today’s office and mobile products in to one unified connector and cable.
